Kevin Blechdom's performance for Bad Timing last year included singing on helium, banjo playing and a seemingly endless karaoke rendition of Whitney Houston's `I will always love you' with increasingly precarious key changes. (Sadly we were unable to provide some of the other items requested such as a water-filled paddling pool ...)

Since rejecting pure laptop music and performance to form the (now-defunct) Blectum from Blechdom, Kevin Blechdom (Kristin Erickson) has been making music which toys fearlessly with cartoon effects, fingerpicking banjo and power balladery in deliberately accomplished "bad" songs.

Her latest offering "Eat My Heart Out" (2005) is an autobiographical musical story about love in which Kevin takes a vulnerable head-first dive into the contradictions and desperation of human emotion. It's a dense musical journey of contrasting styles, surprises, and heartache, an ADHD-ridden medley of hyper-MIDI computer frenzies, tragic ballads, pirate shanties, self-help anthems, and hillbilly torch songs (recorded on laughing gas). Featuring guest producers/vocalists including Mocky and Jamie Lidell, the overall effect is something like kid's theme-park ride getting hijacked and rewired as an emotionally bare, 8-Bit Lloyd-Webber musical.

"Terrifying post-modern neurotic/emotional realism! You don't find that in many pop records do ya. Album of the year." Drowned in Sound

"a compulsive, repulsive, inspired glimpse of the void within, and possibly the most psychedelic record of the year so far" Frances May Morgan, Plan B

planningtorock
(twisted nerve, rostron)

Support and collaboration is provided by fellow Berlin resident Planningtorock, aka solo musician and video artist Janine Rostron, who performs together with her band of symmetrical make-believe characters, which are projected on and about her as she unleashes wild, Kate Bush-influenced vocals. As well as running her own label, she has also had a download release on Twisted Nerve.

um
(strange lights, tripel)

UM songs are propelled by charity shop grooves, sampled loops and post-digital crunches and hums. These songs consist of short, darkly humourous and often touching tales. UM has previously supported the likes of V/VM, Ariel Pink, Panda Bear, The Magic Band and Múm and recently toured Germany and The Netherlands.
