A core part of the diverse electronic scene emerging from St Petersburg, Sasha Zaitsev and Ilya Baramiya are EU (an abbreviation for the Russian for `christmas baubles'). The EU sound is a warm and fluidic, abstract-beats-driven melodic electronica with a lofi edge. With similarities to the likes of Boards of Canada and Autechre, EU nevertheless manage to transcend the ranks of slavish Warp copyists. With recent material they have made a conscious decision to develop beyond their digital beginnings towards something more organic and emotive by drawing on a wider range of analogue sounds and thinking of the process as that of creating `songs' rather than just `tracks'. The first results of this project are the current full-length Warm Math and the excellent Tuner EP on their main UK label, Bristol's Pause 2.

Since the release of their debut international full-length Reframing in 2000, EU have made compilation appearances for labels as diverse as Lo Recordings, Peacefrog and Earworm. They also featured in the Pause 2 special on Radio 1's One World (see links below) and have even had a video shown in ITV1's late-night Mixmasters series.

EU come to Bad Timing as part of their first tour of Western Europe.

Another chance to see the new live lineup featuring the major drumming talents of Ashley Marlowe (Charlottefield, ex-Conemelt), which debuted to a great reception at January's Bad Timing.

Andrew Coleman, perhaps best known under his Animals on Wheels alias, has released two albums and an EP for the highly respected Ninja Tune label, in addition to numerous 12"s and compilation appearances on his own landmark Bovinyl imprint. Moving away from the rapid-fire breakbeats and abrupt mood shifts of the past, recent material has emphasized the rich melodic textures that always held the foundation of his best work. Recent collaborations include remixes for Toytronic's Multiplex and a forthcoming track with Dose One (Anticon).
